You reminded me about all the characters I worked at two government agencies. Government buildings were always bare bones and horribly out of date. Sounds like we worked in similar circumstances.

Ugh, I'm sorry! You really have to rely on there being good people to make it bearable, don't you?

For 10 years, I worked at a police department, which was an oddity in the late 1980's because my degree was in counseling psychology. I was hired to teach drug education in the local schools. So you had a 50-year-old white woman wearing a police uniform teaching school children about the dangers of taking drugs to children of other cultures. It was a challenge to put it mildly, but also the experience of a lifetime.

Hello Cherie, I think the exclamation and commas are all in the right place :) :) it was nice to read about your long career journey. I could relate to it…some parts especially as I have been working full time in the media for the last 30 years or so. Our experiences could be different and yet there are emotions that one feels which will be similar in some ways!

Thank you, Shital, I'm glad you enjoyed my story. I was hoping the emotions would be relatable even in other occupations, so I appreciate your comments!

And now I’m catching up with your earlier posts. This one brings back lots of memories because as a self-employed Title Searcher I often had to visit courthouses to read the files (before everything was online). I still prefer to go in person when I can.

Thanks for checking out my other stories, Katharine. It was a tough job, but so much good came of it in terms of the people I met!
